Play Online Centipede
Dona Bailey and Ed Logg created Centipede at Atari in 1981. The action plays out on a garden-like grid filled with mushrooms and a long insect at the top. You guide a small blaster along the lower edge and fire upward with constant pressure.
Hit a body segment and it turns into a mushroom. The creature splits at that spot. The new parts weave through the field and bend when they hit obstacles. Speed picks up as pieces reach the bottom zone. A spider cuts across the lower area and threatens your space. A flea drops straight down and leaves extra mushrooms as it falls. A scorpion races across and poisons mushrooms. Any piece that touches one rushes straight toward you. You earn points for each target and for trimming the field. Higher waves add more chaos.
Centipede gained a large audience in arcades and brought many new players into shooters. Its color, sound, and quick movement give it a sharp rhythm that feels modern. The follow-up Millipede expanded the idea with fresh enemies and a fiercer pace. The original still delivers a clean challenge that rewards steady aim and smart positioning.
